In the late 1970s, Satish Bhaskar sets out along India's coastlines and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to find the nesting beaches of sea turtles. His death-defying quest uncovers the mysteries of one of the ocean's most elusive creatures, and a mission to save them from extinction. Then the 2004 tsunami strikes, and Bhaskar faces a harder question: what happens to sea turtles when their nesting beaches disappear?

Turtle Walker premiered at DOC NYC in 2024 and won the Grand Teton Award at the Jackson Wild Media Awards. It has since screened at over 70 international film festivals and is currently on an educational tour across 100 locations in India.

Turtle Walker was directed by Taira Malaney and produced by Angad Dev Singh, Emaho Films, along with Tiger Baby, the company run by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. Oscar winner James Reed (My Octopus Teacher) served as executive producer, alongside Oscar-nominated HHMI Tangled Bank Studios.
IMPACT CAMPAIGN
Over the past 5 years, along with our impact partner Jnana Foundation, we have raised more than $350,000 to build capacity and expand a marine megafauna rescue and rehabilitation program across Karnataka, Goa and Gujarat.
We have also supported an initiative to introduce marine studies into the curriculum at Teach For India schools by training 139 teachers and engaging 806 students through workshops. We also launched a carbon-conscious filmmaking initiative.
